5 individuals have been arrested after 2.9 tonnes of cocaine value about €72m (£60m) was seized on a fishing boat within the Canary Islands.
The AKT 1 was stopped by the Spanish coastguard and escorted to Las Palmas, the capital metropolis of Gran Canaria, on Wednesday.
Spain’s El Dia newspaper reported that the police and tax company had been additionally concerned within the operation, and officers had been ready onshore when the vessel arrived.
A spokesman for the Spanish Civil Guard stated: “We try to substantiate the quantity of medicine on board.”
Photos had been revealed exhibiting officers on board with a minimum of a dozen giant white luggage on the deck of the boat.
The medication had been hidden in one of many gasoline tanks.
The 5 suspects – 4 of whom had been from Turkey and one from Georgia – had been remanded in custody in Las Palmas.
